Oh What A Ride!

Absolutely one of our best times ever. Ron and Cindy took us to such interesting places. The mail drop where mail was dropped from a shear cliff to be delivered to Springdale, Hurricane, St. George areas. That ride was a long day we rode about 55 or 60 miles. I had wondered what the Barricks was and why it was called that. The Barricks owned some of the property we rode on. The trail was sandy and we criss-crossed the creek, which was great fun for the kids and a good way to cool off. We were all tired and dirty when we got back but it was worth it.

The second day we went to Peek-a-boo, great sand dunes and a slot canyon so beautiful I can hardly describe it. I hiked part way up the canyon and found the going easy, so later Mike and I hiked to the end of the canyon. It was not a long hike for the others but was a great hike for me to complete after having my knee replaced. The wind, water and sandstone was layered in the most beautiful patterns and colors. The rest of the group rode to a slide in cave that Shawn and some others scouts found a long---long--- time ago. (well I guess Shawns not that old). I was pretty tired so Mike and I rested at our picnic place and then we went back to Kanab to start dinner. I would have loved to have gone into the cave but they said it was a tight squeeze and the army crawl was required to get out. Thanks Marrit for taking such good pix so I could see what it was like. Michelle said the kids didn't want to leave the sand dunes and then they didn't want to leave the cave.

The third day we went on a beautiful ride to a place overlooking Hilldale and Colorado City. We rode to an indian cave which was another place I couldn't hike to because it was so steep. I probably could have rolled down (lol) but watching Ron get back up the hill on his worn out knees reminded me that it was a good thing I didn't try it. There were indian hyroglyics and depressions in the sandstone all in a row where they ground corn. On the way back we went to a cabin that a friend of Ron's takes care of. It was so peaceful and quiet. It had a pond with little fish the kids could feed. We had our picnic there and headed for home.

Parker said said, "that was the most awesome vacation house ever!" He was thrilled to sleep in a great big bed. All the kids were great and had such a fun time. We surely owe the Glover's a huge thank you for their hospitality and sharing their time and homes. I couldn't walk the day after we got home but then everyone else was having the same problem in some form. But it was worth it!

I am so thankful for the memories we have made together. The kids still talk about staying in the cabins at Marysvale. We are planning another ride at the Tropic reservoir the first of August. We decided to go there because Kirt and Marrit were not able to come to the Twitchell reunion. There are lots of trails we have gone on and many we haven't so I know we will have a good time. As long as there is dirt, water and marshmellows the kids will be happy.

I love you all! Love, Grams
